¿Do you know the profession of redeira?

The "redeiras" or "atadoras" (spanish nouns) are those professionals who are dedicated to the repair of work tools that fishermen use (net of thread) during their work at sea. They (because it is a collective in which women predominate) knowendless sailor knots. It seems a very simple job, but they need to be very detailed and laborious. They must also perform mathematical calculations so that the "aparellos" are made perfectly.

Currently those groups that wish to dedicate themselves to this profession must take a course in which they will acquire a certificate which they will be able to practice the profession of "redeira".

These professionals are self-employed but are grouped into associations. There are several associations in Galicia.

With this small contribution of information I try to show this profession, which without a doubt was never recognized as it deserves and that it is time to do it, since with time it will only remain in memory, as there are fewer and fewer professionals.
